摘要

Sugarcane by virtue of its long duration and practice of plant crop followed by one or two ratoons provides an environment conducive for the multiplication of insect pests and diseases. Insect pests alone cause about 20 per cent loss in yield (Dhaliwal et al., 2004) and 15 per cent loss in sugar recovery (Avasthy, 1983). Amongst insect pests attacking sugarcane, early shoot borer, Chilo infuscatellus Snellen is a serious and regular pest occurring in all sugarcane growing areas of the State. It alone caused losses to an extent of 22-33 per cent in cane yield, 12 per cent in sugar recovery and 2 per cent in commercial cane sugar (Patil and Hapse, 1981).
