Comparison between dry live fingers and artificial fingers in fingerprint authentication

We have evaluated security of fingerprint systems as typical of biometric systems. As a result, we found that artificial gummy fingers made of gelatin can fool the fingerprint Systems at a high rate. This fact presses for reconsideration on security of the fingerprint systems. From the viewpoint of convenience, artificial gummy fingers have potentialities in substitution for dry live fingers difficult to be accepted by fingerprint systems. In this paper we compare acceptance rates of artificial gummy fingers and dry live fingers, and then discuss difference in image contrast and compliance.
