Several chitin-binding proteins were isolated from the “bottom fraction” ofHevea brasiliensis(Müll.) Arg. latex. One of these chitin-binding proteins is hevein, a small monomeric protein which strongly resembles the lectin from stinging nettle (Urtica dioicaL.).
