The consumer electronics (CE) industry in the United States is at the center of attention this year as the country begins terminating analog broadcasting across all states. Starting February 18, the country will completely switch to digital terrestrial broadcast, and it would be necessary for every household to have digital-capable TV, or at least a digital-analog converter, to view a TV. The U.S. government has earmarked about ¥100 billion (US$1 billion) for the purchase of converters in the form of a coupon, which is worth US$40 each. Every U.S. households will be entitled to up to two coupons.
