摘要

Sunflower, a potential source of quality edible oil is becoming important to supplement shortage of oil from the conventional oilseeds. The phenomenal growth of the crop, both in terms of area cultivated and production is attributed to its wide adaptability to different agro-climatic conditions and various farming situations, economic viability of the crop, it's deep root system helps to survive during adverse weather conditions compared to other oilseed crops and as it is a quick growing crop, sunflower shows positive response to nitrogen and phosphorus application. Excessive use of inorganic fertilizers to obtain high yield of improved crop varieties, which feed heavily on plant nutrients resulted in deficiency of other nutrients such as Zn, S andothers. And, also under the present conditions of reducing availability, rising prices and high-energy costs of -non-renewable sources of nutrients, the simplest and easiest way to maintain the soil health and for sustaining its productivity is throughorganic manures. Soil organic matter plays a vital role in keeping the soil productivity high.
