Effect of Vitamin E and Zinc j Supplementation on Erythrocyte Antioxidant Enzymes and Plasma Total Antioxidant Activity in Sahiwal Cows

sent study was conducted to see the effect of vitamin E and zinc supplementation on milk yield, milk composition, and udder health in Sahiwal cows. For this, thirty-two pregnant dry Sahiwal cows were selected at sixty days prepartum and divided into four groups namely control, 11, 12 and 13 of eight cows each. Group 11 were supplemented with zinc (In) @ 60 ppm/day/cow, group 12 were supplemented with vitamin E (VE) @ 1000111/day/cow and group 13 were supplemented with combination of vitamin E 1000 lU/day/cow and zinc @ 60 ppm/day/cow during day 60 prepartum to day 60 postpartum.. Blood samples was collected on day -60, -45, -30, -15, -7, -3, 0, 3, 7, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 with respect to day of parturition and analysed for superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant activity. Superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidise activities were observed higher (P<0.05) in 13 than control, 11 and 12 groups, lotal antioxidant activity was significantly (P<0.05) higher in 13 in comparison to control, 11, and 12 groups. In the present study, vitamin E and zinc supplementation increases the total antioxidant activity and reduces oxidative stress in Sahiwal cows.
