Effect of season, period and age at first calving on first lactation traits in Murrah buffaloes

Season of calving had a significant effect on first service period, first calving interval and first dry period at the Military Dairy Farm, Ambala, but had no effect on these traits at the National Dairy Research Institute Farm at Haryana. At both farms, most of the buffaloes calved during the rainy season. Age at first calving at both farms was significantly affected by period of calving. First lactation yield and 305-day-first lactation yield were significantly influenced by period of calving inboth herds. All first lactation production and reproduction traits were not affected by age at first calving.
