Baseline sister chromatid exchange frequency in Bhadawari buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis).

Blood samples collected from 10 Bhadawari buffaloes were incubated with pokeweed mitogen and 5'-bromodeoxyuridine for 2 consecutive cell cycles of DNA replication, and the basal sister chromatid exchange frequency (SCE) was measured. The mean frequency was 5.56 per cell; the mean frequency for male and female buffaloes was 6.4 and 4.3 per cell respectively. SCE were non-randomly distributed and occurred more frequently in large chromosomes than in small chromosomes.
