Milk Production Performance of Lactating Holstein Friesian Crossbred Cows Under Summer Stress Ameliorating Measures

To find out effects of different heat stress ameliorating measures, 34 factating HF crossbred cows of first four parity, having 64.2% exotic inheritance and maintained at IDF, Nagla, G. B. P. U. A. & T., Pantnagar, Uttarankhand, were studied during aperiod of April - August, 2004. Summer stress ameliorating treatments viz. water showering, sodium bi-carbonate feeding and both together were tried. Water showered cows showed significant increase in milk yield, per day milk yield and 4% FCM yield during the study period. Milk quality traits (specific gravity, fat %, solids not fat % and total solids %) were significantly (P<0.01) affected by water showering and sodium bicarbonate feeding.
