GENETIC STUDIES ON REPRODUCTIVE TRAITS IN JERSEY, SAHIWAL AND JERSEY X SAHIWAL CROSSBREEDS

Jersey breed of exotic cattle is extensively used for crossbreeding with native cattle in India, Gestation period, service period and calving interval are the three important reproductive traits having direct influence on productive life of cows and thus affect the profitability of the herd. Keeping these in view the present investigation was carried out to study the gestation period, service period and calving interval and the various factors affecting these traits in Jersey, Sahiwal and Jersey x Sahiwal crossbrcds. Heritability and repeatability of gestation period, service period and calving interval and correlations among the traits were also estimated.
