Two Japanese Honored with Ramon Maffsaysay Awards

The Maesavsav Award is known as the "Nobel Prize of Asia." This year, among the seven recipients of this prestigious award were two Japanese people. The Magsaysay Award was established in 1957 to commemorate the late Ramon Magsaysay (1907-1957), who was the third president of the Philippines since its independence in 1946. The aim of the Magsaysay Award is to "honor greatness of spirit shown in service to the people." The awards are given in six categories: government service; public service; community leadership; journalism, literature, and creative communication arts; peace and international understanding; and emergent leadership.
