The electrophoretic mobility of blood platelets has been studied in elderly patients with primary neuronal and vascular dementia. By this method it is possible to differentiate the two conditions in that platelets show an increased sensitivity to added adenoaine diphosphate in the plasma of patients with vascular dementia. Transmission experiments showed that this increased sensitivity is not inherent in the platelets, but is due to a transferable factor in the plasma.
