Clinical decision support systems for utilization of CT in the emergency department

Over the last decade, health information technology (HIT) has revolutionized healthcare [i]. Recent research suggests that hospitals with electronic medical records, computerized order entry and clinical decision support had fewer complications, lower mortality rates and lower costs [2]. However, how HIT has impacted diagnostic imaging utilization is unclear. The aims of this article are to examine how clinical decision support systems have affected the field of imaging, specifically, the use of CT in the emergency department and to identify key features associated with successful clinical decision support.
