The vehicle with torsion beam suspension system is prone to generate vibration and noise when it passes over road joints and cleats, which are called harshness. In particular, the fore-aft shock when the vehicle is passing over a cleat at approximate 40 km/h is a significant problem. So focusing on the axle trajectory and frequency characteristics when the vehicle is passing over a cleat, the mechanism of the fore-aft shock is analyzed taking its relationship with the frequency characteristics of the road input into consideration. Moreover, such a technique is proposed that is helpful in improving not only the harshness hut also the compliance steer.
