摘要

Rice seedlings (Oryza saliva cv. Khanica) were raised under very weak electric field (12/25 V/m) in aqueous medium containing dilute potassium or calcium nitrate solution. In one week old seedlings, root system architecture changed due to the type ofcation and the intensity of electric field. Application of electric field inhibited primary root growth irrespective of the type of cation and intensity of field. However, electric field stimulated growth and development of adventitious roots in presence of H~+ or Ca~(++) ion current. Specific ion current may have a role in the developmental control of root.
