An extended consideration of heterogeneous catalytic processes (including the surface formation of particles with excited internal degrees of freedom) and of diffusion and heat transfer processes in the MESOX set-up allowed us to compute both the recombination coefficient and the recombination energy accommodation coefficient on silicone coatings; the computed coefficients agree well with experimental data. The heterogeneous catalysis model proposed in this paper can be used to predict heat fluxes to the surface of a re-entry space vehicle on entering the Earth's atmosphere.
