tt cross-section measurements at the LHC

An accurate determination of the top quark pair production cross-section at the LHC will provide an important check of the Standard Model (SM).Given the high statistics available, corresponding to about one top quark pair persecond at a luminosity of 10~(33)cm~(-2)s~(-1),the cross-section measurement can be per-formed relatively fast after the turn-on of the LHC. Prospects for this measurementwith the ATLAS and CMS detectors during the initial period of LHC are presentedhere.
