Atmospheric concentrations of chlorinated solvents were determined in the vicinity of a major user of such compounds in Colorado. Samples were collected using Tenax absorbent and analysed by thermal desorption#x2010;GC/ECD. Comparison of samples collected upwind and downwind of the plant revealed that on certain days there were significant releases of methyl chloroform and, to a lesser extent, carbon tetrachloride from the plant. There was no evidence for consistent releases of other chlorinated solvents.
