On the cold‐drawing of plastics

AbstractThe characteristics of the cold‐drawing of Lexan polycarbonate are compared with the several proposed mechanisms of cold‐drawing. It is concluded that the mechanism of Lazurkin and Fogel'son, involving biased segmental motion, is correct. It is indicated that this mechanism easily explains the neck formation, and it is suggested how the glass temperature enters into cold draw
