Tc-99m MDP uptake was seen in the rectus femoris muscle of a 14-year-old black female sprinter who complained of left leg pain. Straining the rectus femoris muscle in the leg that sprinters use to push-off from the starting blocks is a fairly common injury in this type of runner. Her x-rays were normal. The mechanism of uptake is not known, but may involve early or mild myositis ossificans.
