Semicon West 2000 marks the 30th anniversary of the industry's largest conference and exhibition in North America — and the show has come a long way since its inception. Semicon-ductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) was formed in 1970 to organize and manage the first show dedicated to semiconductor equipment and materials suppliers. In 1971 there were fewer than 100 exhibitors and scarcely 2000 attendees including exhibitor personnel, construction crews and security guards. By 1973, SEMI was a full-service trade association, evident with its formation of a standards committee. From that original show, SEMICON West has developed and expanded dramatically.
