It is a great honour and a pleasure as the senior member of the Scientific Committeeof the Incontri di Fisica delle Alte Energie to deliver this address to you. The Incontrihave now reached the seventh edition after Parma, Lecce, Torino, Catania, Pavia, andNapoli. Let me briefly recall that these meetings started in 2002 as a new series after thethirteen editions of the Incontri sulla Fisica di LEP initiated in 1988. The total seriesreaches therefore this year the goal of two decades. As an additional remark let me alsonote that, in 1990, the corresponding meeting of the Incontri of the LEP series was alsoheld here in Bologna, organized by Michele Caffo and Ettore Remiddi.
