摘要

In an attempt to lower blood cholesterol levels, recent decisions by the European Commission have led to the authorization of the addition of phytosterols and phytostanols to various milk products, including yoghurt, fermented milk, fruit-based milk drinks, spreadable margarine and salad dressings. It is concluded that the daily intake of these additives should not exceed 3 g, should be only used for the reduction of blood cholesterol levels and that these products should not be consumed by pregnant women or children aged less than 5 years..
