A Review of the Progress of Foaming Cleansing Products During the Last Fifty Years

This review presents important performance improvements achieved in the foaming cleansers category during the last five decades, highlighting the patents that made them possible. The improvements, categorized in "product generations", started in the late 1920s with the discovery of the "alternatives to soap", and have continued ever since. The result is the sophisticated products of today, best represented by the "fifth generation" cleansers.
