For diatomic chain-lattice we introduce a fully quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian operator and then search for its “invariant eigen-operator”, in this way the acoustic modes and optical modes are easily obtained. This approach sharply differs from the traditional classical treatment and demonstrates the directness, simplicity and efficiency of the invariant eigen-operator method.
