A simple method is reported for the synthesis of 9,9-bis(m-carboranyl) from 9,9#x2032;-bis (m-carboranyl) mercury upon its decomposition under the influence of catalytic amounts of (PPh3)3RhCl in HMPA. Under these conditions, 9-m-carboranylmercury chloride easily forms 9-chloro-m-carborana and metallic mercury. A simple method for symmetrization of 9-o- and 9-m-carooranylmercury chloride into 9,9#x2032;-bis(o- and m-carboranyl)mercury under influence of sodium stannite in an alkaline medium was elaborated.
