Nuclear Materials Development and Nuclear Power Generation in India: The Present Status and Future Needs

The mastery over the entire nuclear fuel cycle from mining of ores, mineral processing, extraction of metals, consolidation, fuel fabrication, use in nuclear reactors, reprocessing of spent fuel to waste immobilization, achieved by India in the last five decades augur well for the increasing role of nuclear power for electricity generation expected in this century and for more centuries to come. But there are many financial, societal and HRD issues related to technology and project management which the nuclear scientists and technologists have to come to grip with, to ensure India's march towards a 'Developed Nation', with energy security assured through nuclear energy.
