The 45th National Metallurgists' Day (NMD) will be celebrated in the usual grand manner, this time in the Financial Hub of India, Mumbai between 13th and 16th November 2007. Besides the events that accompany the NMD Celebrations and the Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) every year, the 2007 Meeting will include an International Symposium ori Energy Related Materials. This year NMD/ATM will be jointly organized by Mumbai, Vadodara, Pune and Hazira Chapters. international Symposium . An international symposium on Energy Related Materials will be held on 13th November at Nehra Centre, Mumbai. It is well recognized that the progress of human civilization is intimately connected with the availability and development of two major resources - materials and energy. What is perhaps less appreciated is the inextricable relation between materials development and energy generation. This interdependence has been continuously growing and it is the engineering materials that hold the key to the large-scale production of any form of energy. Materials issues related to petrochemical, thermal, hydroelectric and nuclear power industries along with alternative energy sources will be discussed in this symposium which will feature several invited speakers from India and abroad. Mumbai is a hub of major industries in the energy sector, and is ideally suited as a venue for this symposium. The following is an indicative list of themes to be covered in this symposium: Special steels for nuclear & thermal power industries; Energy conversion materials; Solar cell materials; Materials for petrochemical industries; Materials for hydroelectricity generation; Materials for coal gasification; Special materials for nuclear industry; Materials for future energy systems.
