Diabetes is epidemic in America, as in much of the rest of the world. We hear and read about it nearly every day of the week. But do you know what it means to live with it? Here's what it's like for me: The panic begins with a gathering fog of unease. I find myself unable to carry on a conversation. Or I start arguing, mindlessly. My scope of vision narrows as though I've been equipped with blinkers. My heart thumps, like the old cartoons that featured Bugs Bunny in love. But the difference is that I'm not enraptured, just sick.
