Robots break with tradition

The results of the 2004 annual survey 'World Robotics', saw a double digit growth in the robot business, with Worldwide order intake increasing by 18% in the first half of 2004 compared with the same period in 2003. The overall performance capabilities of robots have increased in the last decade, while at the same time prices have plummeted, which has led to many more potential application areas in automated projects. Although the automotive sector still accounts for a large portion of robot applications, they are increasingly finding applications in non-automotive areas. They are cheaper, easier to commission and use, and typical pay-back times can now be less than two years.
