Safe automation of fluid power systems

John Hill and Peter Soderberg of Parker Hannifin take a look at the challenges of safely automating fluid power systems. Safety is a fundamental human right, enshrined in European legislation. In industry, the principal guiding legislation is the Machinery Directive, which in its latest form, 2006/42/EC, covers the essential health and safety requirements (ESHR) that must be followed in the design, manufacture and operation of all machines used anywhere in the EU. Similar standards are also recognised elsewhere in the world.
