With manufacturers beginning to look more favourably at safety networks, ODVA Europe Chairman, Paul Brooks, outlines the benefits of the DeviceNet Safety offering. In recent years, manufacturers have been able to increase their commitment to personal safety through the use of advanced safety switch and relay technology. However, this has often led to inflexible systems and unnecessary downtime. Manufacturers are looking to get the same flexibility and productivity improvements in their safety systems that they achieved when PLCs and fieldbuses replaced relays for standard control applications.
