Lifetime requirements applicable to most steel products have now become very strict, and they are likely to grow even more in the future. Corrosion damage, either cosmetic or perforating in nature, is certainly one of the main reasons why steel components do fail. Therefore, the steel products should be given some metallic protective coating. The most widely used protective coatings are either of pure zinc or aluminium, or Zn-Al and Zn-Fe alloys.In this context, the 5th international Conference on Zinc and Zinc Alloy Coated Steel (GALVATECH '2001) will provide a unique opportunity to exchange information on metallurgical problems, technological breakthroughs, line management and customer approach. We hope it will be the forum of choice for researchers, manufacturers, transformers, and final users.
