Another year has passed, and I just celebrated both the anniversary of my birth and the anniversary of the start of my career in social gerontology. I have been doing social gerontological research since 1971, which seems to me a long time to, coinciding as it does with my entire adult life. As Editor of Healthcare for Women International, I publish a collection or articles about health issues related to aging women each year and this is that issue. While I am always pleased to do so, this year I find myself longing for a way to hasten the pace of accumulating scientific knowledge in gerontology. I wish there would have been greater progress than what I have witnessed in the span of 48 years. At least this issue yields baby steps forward.zzzEleanor Krassen Covan
