摘要

Paul Laidler, business director for machinery safety at TUV SUD Product Service, talks through the changes to EN ISO 14119:2013 and what it means for system designers. International Standard EN ISO 14119:2013 'Safety of machinery. Interlocking devices associated with guards. Principles for design and selection' has now been harmonised to the EU's Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This is the first major re-write of the Standard since 1995, and the 30th April 2015 is the date of cessation of presumption of conformity for the superseded standard, giving safety systems designers just six months to comply. The standard aims to tackle any previously confused areas, giving guidance on how to design and select interlocking devices associated with guards. As it has implications for the design of some guard interlocking systems, it would be advisable for both machine builders and end users to take action now.
