Saldanha Steel grants Final Acceptance for Corex Plant

Voest-Alpine industrieanlagenbau (VAI) received the final acceptance certificate from Saldanha Steel Corporation for the takeover of the Corex C-2000 plant.Whilst most integrated steel producers employ blast furnace technology, Saldanha Steel has chosen combined Corex and direct reduction technologies. Based on the use of mainly indigenous iron ores comprising Sishen Lump ore and indigenous coals from the Van Dijksdrift and Grooteluk coal districts, this plant is designed to produce a total of 650,000 tpy of high-quality hot metal. All of the required additives are also locally supplied.
