Progress continues at NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai; Japan Broadcasting Corp.) towards the introduction of Super Hi-Vision ultra-high-definition (HD) TV service by 2025.NHK, which in 1995 started research and development of ultra-HD TV systems, has been promoting the Super Hi-Vision system since 2002. The system supports 16 times the pixels of HDTV and accommodates a 22.2-channel sound system. With this system, viewers can receive very realistic sensations as if being in the video and audio program (Table 1).Super Hi-Vision's format is recommended in ITU-R for extended Large Screen Digital Imagery (LSDI) systems and in SMPTE for ultra-HD TV.
