Various methods for the synthesis of samarium beta-diketonates (acetylacetone, benzoylacetone, dibenzoylmethane, thenoyltrifluoroacetone, and pivaloyltrifluoroacetone) were considered. It has been shown that methods for the preparation of samarium beta-diketonates based on ligand exchange reactions, regardless of the method of their implementation, cannot be used to obtain ultrapure chelates. It is possible to obtain ultrapure samarium beta-diketonates by the direct reactions of the metal and the ligands. However, for non-fluorinated beta-diketones, the reaction slows down over time.
