The power sector, federal regulators and lawmakers appear to be working toward agreement on the need for expedited transmission permitting, but interregional planning and cost issues remain contentious, experts said May 24 at the CLEANPOWER 2023 conference in New Orleans. “If you look at the last 10 years, the transmission growth rate has been around 1 a year, down from about 1.5 prior to that,” said Al Vickers, COO of Grid United, an independent transmission developer, during a panel discussion entitled “Transmission: Getting Power to the People.”
