Higher c.v. thermal coal suppliers such as Australia, Russia and Colombia appear to be pushing harder to secure business in China, as demand dries up in other key markets. Chinese buyers said they were seeing sellers sweeten their offers after returning from the Labour Day break, and some creative contract terms were said to be on the table. However, broadly speaking, China seems ill-placed to accommodate extra volumes, with stockpiles growing at ports from north to south as the economic recovery struggles to gather enough steam.
