Illinois joins other states in nuclear collaboration to weigh benefits of SMRs

After the Illinois Senate passed a bill last month to lift thestate’s moratorium on new nuclear plant construction, the IllinoisCommerce Commission said April 10 it will join a new multi-statecollaborative of utility regulators aimed at assessing the potentialfor advancing small modular reactors and other new forms ofnuclear power across the states.The ICC said it was the latest to accept an invitation to jointhe recently created Advanced Nuclear State Collaborative, whichwas created with the support of the Department of Energy asa partnership between the National Association of RegulatoryUtility Commissioners and the National Association of StateEnergy Officials, which represent governors’ energy offices.
