Anglo American plc has announced the start-up of commercial copper operations at itsQuellaveco project in Peru, following the successful testing of operations and final regulatoryclearance. Quellaveco is expected to produce 300,000 tonnes per year of copper equivalentvolume on average over its first ten years. The company has also revised downwards the2022 production guidance at the mine to 80,000-100,000t/y copper (previously 100,000-150,000t/y). The ramp-up to full production is expected to take 9-12 months. Guidance for2023 and 2024 is unchanged at 320,000-370,000t/y copper. Anglo’s production guidance forChile has been tightened to 560,000-580,000 tonnes of copper (previously 560,000-600,000tonnes) due to lower throughput at Los Bronces caused by a combination of water restrictionsand a change in ore characteristics.
