A US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule proposal aimed at reducing power plant CO2 emissions could accelerate the phase out of coal-fired generators, according to Fitch Ratings. The proposal, released last month, targets certain existing and new power plants that run on coal, natural gas and oil, according to the EPA, and it proposes to reduce CO2 emissions through carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and hydrogen co-firing.
