Sex identification of dog by PCR based on the differences in the AMELX and AMELY genes

Description: The amelogenin (AMEL) gene, located on both X and Y chromosomes of mammals, usually shows length polymorphism between AMELX and AMELY. PCR assays based on AMEL have facilitated sex identi?cation in many mammalian species. 1–3 Here, we cloned a partial sequence of the canine AMELY and established a PCR method for sex identification.
