Importation expected to stabilize poultry prices

The government has assured consumers as well as poultry raisers that the price of chicken could stabilize with the importation of 5,000 metric tons considering the wholesale price for imported chicken, inclusive of taxes, is at P85 per kilo. Over 40 companies have signified their intention to import chicken amounting to close to 4, 000 metric tons. The chicken imports are expected to arrive starting July. These will be charged 40 percent tariff after the Department of Agriculture lifted the special safeguard measure and the trigger price mechanism of P94 per kilogram for imported chicken.
