Two studies conducted to determine the antimicrobial potential of HMB, in Microbiological Center of Sichuan Agricultural University, China. Results showed 1). HMB is effective in inhibiting pathogenic bacteria, including E. coil O_g, E. coli O_(149) and E. coli O_(157), Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella Pullorum, and fungi Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium graminum. 2). The degree of inhibition is closely related to HMB inclusion rate and medium pH; and 3). Equi-molar comparison suggests that HMB isless effective than propionic acid and potassium sorbate.
