The nation’s electric grid operators have praised the Federal EnergyRegulatory Commission for seeking to address the project backlogplaguing regional generator queues, but some said the proposedmitigation steps could actually hamper efforts to more quickly reviewprojects.Notably, several grid operators called on FERC to ensure its finalrule does not delay or hinder efforts transmission providers are alreadyundertaking to improve their interconnection processes. ISO-NewEngland asked the commission to consider regional differences inits final rule and allow for reasonable flexibility, so grid operators canincorporate FERC’s provisions into “existing processes and proceduresin a way that best meets the needs of the region.”
