Dairy Breeds- There are six popular breeds of purebred dairy goats in the United States. They are Anglo (Nubian), French Alpine (Alpine), Saanen, Toggenburg, LaMancha and Oberhasli. In the United States goats are used primarily like dairy cows with the milk production being their main purpose. There is little acceptance of goat meat by U.S. consumers who prefer beef, pork, poultry and even lamb as sources of animal protein. Spanish Meat Goats - Spanish meat goats are indeginous to the Southwestern regions of the U. S. They have developed through natural selection as well as planned matings to produce extremely rugged animals that can endure arid and semi-arid climates.
