摘要

The world population is increasing at a rate of 4 per cent every year and knowing that the food supply only increases by 1.5 per cent to 2 per cent, it is evident that there is a pressure to find new ways for food production to keep up with the demand. However, because of the increased public awareness on safe and healthy livestock pro-duction there is an added pressure on livestock producers to produce a meat that is not only safe and clean but also environment and ani-mal friendly. Biotechnology plays an important role in this aspect.
