Determination of body condition scores in dairy cattle

A procedure for body scoring of dairy cattle was described with reference. The five-point scoring system was adapted for use with the tip of the back, the base of the tail, the hooks, pins, and the side of the hind legs were evaluated relative to thedegree or amount of skin cover. The observations were then pooled to come up with the most appropriate body condition score. Animals with body scores 3 and 4 have the best body condition for dairying. The benefits of scoring dairy cattle will be realized by the farmer once the acquainted with it and thus, is of invaluable assistance in maintaining a high-yielding, good dairy cow.
